We are a warm and welcoming, family-run licensed cafe that prides itself on serving fresh, delicious, and high-quality food to our local community. Our cafe is the heart of the neighbourhood, offering a relaxed atmosphere for customers to enjoy their meals, whether it's a hearty breakfast, lunch, or a special treat.

We are looking for a passionate and hardworking individual to join our team as an Apprentice Chef and contribute to the continued success of our cafe.

Ideal Candidate:


Someone who is enthusiastic about food and eager to learn.
No prior experience is required, but a passion for cooking and working in a busy kitchen environment is essential.
A keen interest in culinary arts, an ability to work as part of a team.
A positive attitude will ensure success in this role.


Key Responsibilities:


Food Preparation: Assist with the preparation of ingredients, ensuring they are ready for cooking and serving.
Cooking Assistance: Support the kitchen team with cooking tasks under the guidance of senior chef.
Cleaning and Hygiene: Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen area, including sanitizing surfaces, equipment, and utensils.
Stock Management: Help with receiving deliveries and organizing food stock in the kitchen.
Health & Safety: Follow all food safety guidelines and assist with ensuring the kitchen operates within health and safety regulations.
Learning & Development: Participate in training sessions and work alongside the experienced chef to learn new culinary techniques and kitchen skills.


Hours: This is a full-time position, including weekends. Plus occasional evenings dependent on the needs of the business. Working hours are an average of 40 hours per week. This will include 1 paid day at college.

Skills required

  • Basic Knife Skills: Ability to use knives safely and efficiently for chopping, slicing, and dicing.
  • Food Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with hygiene, food storage, and safe handling practices to prevent contamination
  • Attention to Detail: Precision in preparing ingredients according to recipes, sizes, and presentation standards.
  • Time Management: Ability to manage tasks efficiently, keeping pace with kitchen demands.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to follow instructions clearly and communicate with the kitchen team.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to work long hours on feet, lift heavy items, and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Multi-tasking Ability: Comfort working on several prep tasks simultaneously while maintaining quality and consistency.
  • Teamwork: Willingness to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. A positive, can-do attitude.

Qualifications required

Ideally, level 4 for Maths and English GCSE. Functional skills can be taken alongside the course if necessary.

Previous Experience in a Kitchen Environment: Any previous work or internship in a kitchen, even as a volunteer, is beneficial.

Ideally, basic Cooking Knowledge: Understanding of ingredients, cooking techniques, or a culinary course background.

Training you'll get

On-the-job training with experienced chefs. One day a week at College and skills officer visits to the workplace every 6-8 weeks.
