Advanced apprenticeships (Level 3)
An advanced apprenticeship sits at the same level as A-Levels or a T-Level, but you're employed and paid throughout. It's the level most employers recruit at, and it opens the door to higher and degree apprenticeships.
What you get
- Equivalent to two A-Levels at grades A–E
- The most widely advertised apprenticeship level in the UK
- Recognised entry route into skilled trades, business, digital, care and engineering
- Progress onto a higher or degree apprenticeship afterwards
Who it's for
Anyone with GCSEs (or a Level 2 apprenticeship) who wants a skilled career without going to university.
Common questions
Is an advanced apprenticeship as good as A-Levels?
Academically it sits at the same level, and you finish with paid work experience and no student debt. Many employers value that combination highly.
Can I go to university afterwards?
Yes. A Level 3 apprenticeship can carry UCAS points, and you can also progress to a higher or degree apprenticeship and get a degree paid for by your employer.
How long does it take?
Usually 18 months to two years, depending on the standard and the employer.
