As a Production Chef Apprentice, you'll gain hands-on experience across a wide range of kitchen operations, including our busy à la carte restaurant, weddings, conferences and large-scale events. Working alongside experienced chefs, you'll develop the practical skills, confidence and knowledge needed to build a successful career in hospitality.

Our kitchen is committed to producing food to a two AA Rosette standard, with a strong focus on seasonal menus, locally sourced ingredients and minimising food waste wherever possible. We are proud to source fresh produce from a farm on the estate and have exciting plans to employ our own grower in the future, ensuring the highest quality ingredients while supporting sustainable practices.

List of duties
  • Assist with prep and basic cooking duties.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe kitchen.
  • Follow recipes, instructions, and food safety standards.
  • Support the team during service and learn new skills on the job.
  • Help with stock rotation, deliveries, and kitchen organisation.


Typical Working Pattern

Please note that the working pattern below is an example of the shifts you are likely to work. As this is a hospitality role, shifts may vary depending on business needs, events and seasonal demand.

Monday - Day off
Tuesday - Day off
Wednesday - 2:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Thursday - 11:00 am – 9:00 pm
Friday - 12:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Saturday - 11:00 am – 9:00 pm
Sunday - 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Each working day includes a 1 to 1.5-hour break for lunch and downtime.

Qualifications required

Ideally, Maths and English GCSE at grade 4/C or above

Training you'll get

You will complete a Level 2 Commis Chef Apprenticeship with Exeter College. As part of your apprenticeship, you will attend college one day per week to develop your knowledge and practical skills. Throughout your programme, you will be supported by dedicated tutors and a Skills Officer, who will regularly visit you in the workplace to provide guidance, monitor your progress and help you achieve your apprenticeship.
