They will experience all aspects of software development within P2D and advanced invoice process automation. They will learn key software languages such as .net, SQL, Java and software development frameworks and methodologies together with programming techniques. As technology is fast moving currently, they will also gain AI experience and learn how to use tools such as CoPilot for code development. Apply algorithms, logic and data structures. Interpret and implement a given design whilst remaining compliant with security and maintain ability requirements.


They will engage in root-cause analysis of production issues, develop automation software for client operational efficiencies, and contribute to system integrations. An Apprentice Software Developer constantly learns and adapts to new programming languages and technologies, grows their technical and collaborative skills, and supports the overall goals of the software development team.


Job Role:

  • To become an expert in P2D’s methods of processing invoices:
  • Understanding of the generic systems and processes
  • Understanding of the specific rules of processing for the client(s)
  • Undergo extensive initial training and testing of the above
  • Investigating and resolving production issues.
  • Responding to escalated customer questions from the Support team.

  • Performing root-cause analysis of the system and processes
  • Developing software to automate operational needs.
  • Assist other team members as required.
  • Any ad hoc or additional duties as deemed fit and appropriate by the management team for this post and the level of responsibility attached to it.
  • Writing scripts to assist integrations.

Qualifications required

  • Minimumof 3 A Levels to include Maths and Sciences, GCSE’s or equivalent qualificationin English and a computing orientated qualification.
  • Musthave good computer skills
  • Haveeither completed a L3 Apprenticeship qualification or show outstanding abilityand attributes to meet the above requirements.

Training you'll get

Firebrand’s sector leading Software Developer (L4SD) Apprenticeship Programme develops apprentices to become competent software developers, working across the front-end, logic and data layers.

Apprentices develop a deeper understanding of key software development processes and practices allowing operation at all stages of the software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.

The apprentice will learn advanced programming skills, including object-oriented concepts, use of automated testing tools and secure development principles and practices in order to develop high-quality and secure software.

Firebrands course is delivered either Online (online live instructor led), or face to face in the classroom environment (your choice). Our Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Learning Mentors (LMs) and world-leading trainers prepare apprentices to work across multiple sectors.

Completion of this apprenticeship will provide learners with the following world class vendor certifications in addition to the Software Developer apprenticeship:

  • CertNexus Cyber Secure Coder

  • Industry recognised certification in one of Java, Python or C#
