The purpose of this apprenticeship is to provide practical, hands-on experience in professional canine care, ethical breeding and puppy development while completing a nationally recognised Level 2 Animal Care & Welfare Assistant Apprenticeship.

Working alongside the Founder and wider GVP team, you will develop the knowledge, practical skills and confidence required to work within a professional breeding environment while helping maintain the exceptionally high standards of welfare and care for which The GVP Club is known.

No previous professional dog experience is required. Full training, mentoring and support will be provided throughout your apprenticeship.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Daily Canine Care
  • Feed adult dogs and puppies according to individual feeding plans
  • Ensure fresh drinking water is always available
  • Observe and report any changes in health or behaviour
  • Assist with grooming and general husbandry
  • Maintain exceptional standards of canine welfare at all times
  • Puppy Development

SUPPORT THE GVP COMPANION SYSTEM WITH :

  • Early puppy socialisation
  • Environmental exposure
  • Confidence building
  • Basic training foundations
  • Handling and grooming exercises
  • Crate training
  • Toilet training routines
  • Preparing puppies for their forever homes
  • Exercise , enrichment and training

WORKING PATTERN :

  • This apprenticeship is offered on a flexible rota basis to meet the operational needs of The GVP Club
  • Minimum contracted hours of 16 hours per week and up to 45 in busy periods
  • Working days (5 days out of a 7 day week subject to hours) and hours will be agreed and issued at least one month in advance this
  • Flexibility and reliability are essential, as the welfare of our dogs and puppies is our priority every day

  • Good communication skills
  • Physically fit and happy working outdoors throughout the year
  • Organised with excellent attention to detail
  • Able to work independently when appropriate
  • Full, clean UK driving licence
  • Eligible to undertake a Level 2 Animal Care & Welfare Assistant Apprenticeship

Qualifications required

None necessary but should have a passion for dogs and have a professional outlook

Training you'll get

  • All training done through Haddon Training onsite , we can also offer Maths and English Functional Skills for those who haven't got a grade 4 or equivalent at GCSE level.

Future prospects

  • Possibility of progressing to the Level 3 Animal Care Apprenticeship
