The Apprentice Sports Coach will support the delivery of sport, football sessions, physical activity and education sessions across schools, community venues and holiday programmes. Working alongside experienced coaches and PE staff, they will help set up, plan and deliver safe, inclusive and engaging sessions for children and young people.

Day-to-day duties will include assisting with PE lessons, breakfast, lunchtime and after-school clubs, football coaching, holiday camps and community projects. The apprentice will help prepare equipment, support behaviour management, encourage participation, adapt activities for different abilities and build positive relationships with children, parents, schools and partner organisations. They will also learn about session planning, safeguarding, risk assessments, communication with schools/families and some basic admin or marketing support where appropriate.

Alongside this, you will also gain your Community Activator Coach L2 qualification over the duration of 12-18 months.

Skills required

Good communication skills, confidence working with children and young people, a positive attitude, willingness to learn, reliability and punctuality. Some experience playing, coaching or volunteering in sport would be helpful but is not essential. The candidate should be able to follow instructions, work as part of a team, use initiative and represent the organisation professionally.The ability to travel between schools, community venues and sessions across Harlow and surrounding areas would be preferable.

Qualifications required

GCSE Maths and English are preferred. Applicants who do not already hold the required level should be willing to work towards Functional Skills as part of the apprenticeship where required.No formal coaching qualifications are essential, but sports coaching, leadership, refereeing, first aid or safeguarding qualifications would be beneficial.

Future prospects

There may be opportunities to progress into a paid coaching role, assistant coach role, lead coach position or wider roles within school PE, holiday camps, community sport, mentoring or youth programmes. As Strike Group continues to grow, the apprentice will be supported to build their skills, gain experience across different settings and work towards additional coaching, safeguarding and first aid qualifications.
