Simplifying AI Jargon
Generative AI is advanced technology that can generate text,
images, and provide support during tasks like navigating the application
process when finding a job. It helps with everyday tasks, increases
productivity, and speeds up the completion of important work like applying for
a job, making the overall process less daunting and more efficient.
Why Generative AI Matters Now
With the job market ever changing, it is important to use
new tools that are newly introduced to make sure your skills are up to date.
Generative AI is one such tool that makes job searching easier and can help you
get noticed by employers. Employers are beginning to value candidates who can
use AI, as it shows creativity and adaptability. By using generative AI, NEET
people can overcome the common “no experience, no job” issue and significantly
improve their chances of landing a job in today’s competitive market.
Key Findings from the Research
The study highlighted several important insights about how
NEET people view and use generative AI:
· Among NEET respondents, 85.5% claimed they knew what generative AI is, and of those, 48.6% reported they have knowingly used it. This number reflects the rise in the number of candidates turning to AI to help with tasks.
· Generative AI can help NEET people overcome difficult barriers in the job market, such as complex and lengthy applications, which respondents identified as a major challenge.
· Despite its potential, only 14.5% of respondents used AI to help them apply for jobs, with nearly half (48.6%) concerned it might harm their chances of being hired. This shows a need for clearer information on the benefits of AI and more transparency from employers regarding their views on its use during the application process.
·
26.6% of all respondents used gen AI in some steps
of the application process. While 12.1% only used gen AI for ‘indirect’ tasks
like researching roles or practising interviews.
How you can use Generative AI Throughout the Application Process
Generative AI can simplify various stages of the job search
for NEET individuals, making the entire process smoother and less daunting. Here
is how:
· 17.9% of respondents reported having a medical condition that slightly decreases their ability to carry out daily activities. AI tools can help you quickly find job vacancies that match your skills and interests, reducing time spent scrolling through job boards.
· Generative AI can offer support in creating a professional CV that is free from grammatical and spelling errors, while highlighting your skills and experience making it stand out to potential employers. This is especially beneficial for the 9.8% of individuals that reported English is not their first language.
· AI can help you create cover letters for each job, ensuring your application is specific to the employer and position.
· Generative AI can guide you through the application process, making sure all fields are filled out correctly and professionally.
·
AI tools can also help prepare you for
interviews by offering practice questions and feedback, improving your
confidence and readiness.
Additional Insights
The research uncovered other factors affecting NEET young
people’s job search experience:
· Many respondents (24.9%) reported long-term physical or mental health conditions. Generative AI can help craft job applications that emphasise strengths while accommodating limitations, making the process more inclusive.
·
For those with caring responsibilities (8.7%) or
who are parents (8.1%), AI can streamline the job application process, saving
time and reducing stress.
Employers’ Perspectives
The study found that most employers see candidates using generative
AI as a sign of resourcefulness, innovative thinking, and adaptability. As AI
becomes more integrated into the workplace and society, entry-level job
requirements will likely shift over the next 3 to 5 years. By demonstrating effective
use of AI, NEET people can stand out as forward-thinking candidates who are
ready for the changing demands of the workplace.
