We are constantly asked “why is career advice important?”. The answer is simple; your career is the rest of your life. You will spend so much time of your adult life at work that you want to do something that you enjoy and genuinely wake up looking forward to.
This can be difficult but that’s why we are here, along with your careers advisors we will help you find the best career for you. Although not always accurate first thing is first – try doing a online careers quiz or careers test.
Where can I get career advice?
You can get career advice from pretty much anyone. Speak to your teachers, people where you currently work and your family. They have all got to where they are today due to their career choices. At your school or college, you probably have a careers department or careers advisor who will be happy to help. Talk to your tutor about how to book a careers session with them to discuss your options.

Another alternative is to get yourself a LinkedIn profile and ask your connections for careers advice. People on LinkedIn are always willing to help each other out. What do I ask a Careers Advisor?
When you get your careers interview, you should consider which questions you should ask regarding advice.. This is something that you need to think about, particularly if you’re a millennial or college student thinking about your career.
Firstly, you need to think about what you want a career in. Make a list of places that interest you. Construction? Teaching? Armed forces? Marketing? Pharmaceuticals? Dentistry? You need to ask how you can get into these routes.
To get into the Armed Forces, you can do an apprenticeship or go in as a graduate. Both routes are viable, it just depends on what you’d prefer. Whereas if you want to be a dentist – University is the only route you can go down.
Ask what there is available to help you appeal more in your industry. If you do cadets you’ll appeal more if you want to be in the armed forces. Whereas if you want to be a doctor, having work experience in a hospital or in an old people’s home will appeal to employers.
Go into the career advice meeting with open eyes. You never know what you could learn by the time you leave.
