Building an Electric Britain

About EDF Energy

Hinkley Point C is a major infrastructure project in the United Kingdom, currently under construction as part of the country's efforts to secure low-carbon energy for the future. It is the first new nuclear power station to be built in the UK in over 20 years and represents a significant part of the transition to cleaner energy sources.

The Hinkley Point C project is being developed by EDF Energy, a subsidiary of the French multinational electric utility company Électricité de France (EDF). EDF is one of the largest energy companies in the world, with a strong presence in nuclear power generation. The company is majority-owned by the French government and has a long history of expertise in electricity generation, particularly from nuclear sources.

EDF Energy is responsible for generating and supplying electricity and gas to homes and businesses across the UK. Through the Hinkley Point C project, EDF aims to provide reliable, low-carbon electricity capable of powering around six million homes. The new plant will use EPR (European Pressurised Reactor) technology, designed for enhanced safety and efficiency.

EDF's UK operations are headquartered in London, while the Hinkley Point C site itself is located on the Somerset coast in South West England, near the town of Bridgwater. The project has created thousands of jobs and has become a key part of the regional and national energy infrastructure strategy.
